SA Star Attracting Interest From Serie A & Bundesliga?

One of South Africa’s up- and coming stars has revealed he has received offers from clubs in Serie A and Bundesliga.

Siphephelo “Yaya” Sithole can look back at a good season with Belenenses in Portugal. The 22-year-old only joined the first team in October but finished the 2020/21 campaign with 25 appearances in the Liga NOS.

The strong midfielder ruffled feathers with some of Portugal’s biggest clubs, including new champions Sporting, Porto and Benfica, during his breakout campaign.

However, with the 2020/21 season now being finished, iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu caught up with the talented South African, who revealed that some big club clubs are interested in him.

“I have been receiving some calls everywhere, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey; here, the big giants here in Portugal,” he said.

“So I don’t know what’s going to happen next season. I don’t know maybe I’m going to stay here; maybe they are not going to allow me to go outside, because I still have two years in my contract here in Belenenses. I don’t know if they will let me stay or sell me, but offers I do have.

“We will see next season because you know in football, if you haven’t done a done deal, that means talk, talk, talk, blah, blah, blah.

“So I cannot say I’m going there, it just needs to be a done deal and everything will be announced afterwards.”

South African football fans could potentially see more of Sithole, who hails from Ulundi, after he has been included in David Notoane’s preliminary squad for the Tokyo Olympics.

You can read the full interview with Sithole, where he also chats how a boy from Ulundi ended up in Portugal, how difficult it was to adapt to living overseas, facing teams such as FC Barcelona in the UEFA Youth Champions League and his excitement for the upcoming the Olympics, in this week’s iDiski Times – available in English and Zulu.
