Wydad Casablanca coach Faouzi Benzarti has made the bold decision of leaving out 10 of his first-team stars for the club’s mid-week fixture ahead of the second leg against Kaizer Chiefs.
Unlike Amakhosi, Wydad have a league match on Tuesday evening when they will face RS Berkane in the Botola Pro.
Wydad are currently leading the Moroccan league, three points ahead of rivals Raja Casablanca, but Benzarti is seemingly prepared to sacrifice points against fifth-placed Berkane.
The 73-year-old is one of Africa’s most experienced coaches and is already focussing on his side’s second leg against the Glamour Boys.
Chiefs beat Wydad 1-0 in Casablanca on Saturday with Benzarti already complaining about his side’s heavy fixture schedule ahead of the tie.
That defeat was the Moroccan giants’ only loss in their last 14 games.
