Former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer is reportedly interested in coaching South Africa’s opponents Zimbabwe.
The German coach left Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign after resigning from his post due to personal reasons.
According to Zimbabwean website bulawayo24.com, Zinnbauer is among several candidates who have submitted their CV.
The Zimbabwe Football Association, though, did appoint Norman Mapeza to take over after Zdravko Logarusic was sacked following a run of just one win in 14 games.
Zifa, however, have only given Mapeza a short-term deal and want to assess him over the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ghana (in October) and South Africa and Ethiopia in November.
“Yes, there is overwhelming interest for the Warriors job,” Zifa board member Bryton Britin Malandule told Bulawayo24.
“But we are advising the interested candidates that we have not yet advertised the job and that they will have to re-apply when we open the window.
“At the moment, we have Norman Mapeza in place and he needs the support of every Zimbabwean.
“At the end of his short-term contract, we will then consider options available. We will also consider him (Mapeza), so at the moment, we are not inviting applications until such a time we advertise.”
Zimbabwe started their World Cup qualification with a goalless draw against South Africa and a last-minute defeat to Ethiopia.
