Zuma Defends Tau Over Al Ahly Transfer
Sibusiso Zuma has defended Percy Tau over his transfer to Al Ahly after it was labelled as a step back from the Premier League.
The South African winger was unveiled by Al Ahly on Thursday after completing a reported €1.8 million transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to the Egyptian giants.
Several pundits and fans in South Africa, though, have questioned Tau’s move to join Pitso Mosimane’s side, saying it is a step back in his career.
Zuma, however, insisted Tau can use the move to Al Ahly to find regular game-time again and potentially even go back to Europe.
“I would say Percy must keep working hard. He is a very talented young boy. He needs to keep on working, put your head down. I know people talk all kinds of talks, you know, ‘he’s coming back and what not’, Al Ahly is a huge club,” Zuma told iDiski Times.
“If he put his head down, score goals, you can go back and play anywhere he wants to play. He’s young, he can still go to Spain. The sky’s the limit for him. And there’s so many opportunities.
“For a player to listen to fans, man, it’s not right. He needs to focus on his journey, he knows what he wants to do. There is a plan I think behind this move with his team.
“I’m hoping that he ends up going back, maybe Spain, or maybe back to England again.”
