All Teams Qualified For CAFCL QFs
After Kaizer Chiefs qualified for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League for the first time ever, here are all teams who they and Mamelodi Sundowns could face in the knockout stages.
Amakhosi booked their spot thanks to a historic 2-2 draw in Guinea at Horoya, coming twice from behind to level the game.
As a consequence, Chiefs finished as runners-up in Group C behind Wydad Casablanca. Gavin Hunt’s men ended the group stage level on nine points with Horoya, but they will go through based on the two away goals they scored on Saturday night, after the first leg between the two sides ended 0-0.
They will now be drawn against any of the other group winners and could potentially even face Sundowns in an all-South African affair after Masandawana finished at the top of Group B.
Group A winners Simba SC, who qualified alongside Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly, as well as Group D winners ES Tunis are the other sides Chiefs could face in the next round, with the draw taking place on 30 April.
Group winners will be paired with runners-ups, but cannot face the team that was already in their group, meaning Masandawana could also face Al Ahly in the next round.
Here are all qualified teams:
Group A: Simba, Al Ahly
Group B: Sundowns, Belouizdad
Group C: Wydad, Chiefs,
Group D: ES Tunis, MC Alger
