Bafana Announce Updated Cosafa Cup Squad

Bafana Bafana have announced an updated squad for the Cosafa Cup, which kicks off this week.

Assistant coach Helman Mkhalele will be in charge of the national team, while Hugo Broos will only return to South Africa for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

South Africa has been drawn in Group A, alongside Botswana, Eswatini and Lesotho.

The tournament kicks off on 7 July in Gqeberha, and will also feature guest nation, Senegal, who are currently the highest-ranked African side in the FIFA rankings.

Mkhalele had to ring the changes after the initial squad included players from Kaizer Chiefs, who became unavailable after Amakhosi qualified for the CAF Champions League final, while Orlando Pirates withdrew Vincent Pule and Tshegofatso Mabasa. There were also numerous other unavailabilities, and only nine of the originally announced squad remain.
