Baxter – Dolly Is Close To Starting
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that Keagan Dolly is very close to being selected in Kaizer Chiefs’ starting XI.
The 28-year-old came off the bench in both of Chiefs official games in 2021/22 so far and looked good on the eye for most parts on the pitch.
Baxter has now explained that Dolly has worked very hard to get back in shape but he doesn’t want to put him on too soon because it could cause an injury.
“He is very close, I would say very close (to starting),” Baxter told reporters.
“Keagan has moved from when he signed he had a long period of inactivity, so his sharpness, his touch and his endurance were lacking.
“He’s worked really hard, he is a great lad to have around the place and when he’s come on in both of our games and a friendly game against SuperSport, he’s done really well during his time on the pitch.
“You can understand that the temptation for me is to throw him in but we’re going to get a hamstring injury or soft tissue injury if we do that.
“I’m battling a little bit with myself that I don’t want to throw him in too soon, at the same time you see his quality when he comes on. All in all, he’s close and we always check how he reacts to each game, with regards to fatigue and that sort of thing.”
Chiefs host Baroka in their second DStv Premiership game of the season on Wednesday and it remains to be seen whether Dolly will be ready to start for Amakhosi.
