Baxter Praises Billiat Ahead Of Downs Clash

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that Khama Billiat looks really sharp in training, but he is yet to decide whether he will start the MTN8 clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Billiat had to be substituted in the Carling Black Label cup against Orlando Pirates, but has seemingly shaken off his injury problems.

Baxter reserved some words of special praise for the attacking midfielder, saying he looks even better than he thought but didn’t want to confirm whether Billiat will start against his former side on Sunday.

“Khama is doing excellently in training. He is looking sharp, he is looking enthusiastic,” the Chiefs coach said in his pre-match press conference.

“He’s probably a better all around player than I thought he’d be. That’s what happens when you work with players, you get to know them better.

“Whether that means he will start, or whether that mean he is a very interesting guy from the bench, the next couple of days will tell me.

“I’ve gone through all the stats, the scientists tell me that his endurance is getting better, his strength is getting better and we will make a call.

“Certainly, Khama is looking like he is enjoying the work he’s been doing and he is showing his quality (in training).”

Billiat missed large parts of 2020/21 campaign with a major injury but did feature in the CAF Champions League final and seems fit for the upcoming campaign.
