Broos Admits Permutations Mistake

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos admits he got the permutations to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs wrong after the win over Zimbabwe.

After the 1-0 win over Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on Thursday, Broos said post-match that the Black Stars will need a 3-0 win in the Cape Coast which was duly corrected within the press conference by TimesLive journalist Marc Strydom.

When asked about the incident by Ghanian media after their controversial 1-0 win that sent South Africa crashing out as runners-up of Group G via goals scored – Broos admitted it was an oversight on his behalf.

“First of all I didn’t look at figures, the most important thing was the ranking and the points and the moment if the rest was important then I’d look,” he said after the 1-0 defeat.

“So I came to the press conference five minutes after the game, I didn’t have the time to look what was the situation, what we or Ghana have to do.

“So I just thought, we were one goal ahead, we scored, so it’s two goals. Ghana has to score three times which was a mistake – I know it.

“I didn’t have the time to look at the situation clearly and I corrected afterwards because I knew what the situation was.”
