Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has cleared the air around Thabiso Kutumela after expressing his anger that the Mamelodi Sundowns player had his vaccination on Monday.
Broos was disappointed with Masandawana after the DStv Premiership champions had arranged Kutumela’s vaccination during the international break on Monday.
He also stated that Kutumela perhaps wouldn’t be able to travel with the team to Ethiopia, had he shown symptoms – comments, which were understand as though the player had to be withdrawn from the Bafana camp.
However, Broos has now clarified that Kutumela has remained in camp and will also travel with the team to Ethiopia after not showing any symptoms or side effects.
“Kutumela is still here, so I didn’t withdraw him,” Broos told Bafana’s media department.
“I think that I said very clearly, that because he was vaccinated, the risk was there that could have symptoms after that. So the two following days after the vaccination are crucial, you can have symptoms, like fever, like cough, flu symptoms.
“Therefore I was a little bit anxious, it could have happened.
“But Kutumela stayed with us on Monday, he wasn’t withdrawn and today we can say that this risk is gone, there is no risk anymore that he could have symptoms.
“There was not one moment where I thought I should withdraw Kutumela, only if he should have shown symptoms. So it didn’t happen, so Kutumela stays with us till Monday. He did all the trainings with us, there is no problem, he goes with us to Ethiopia.”
Bafana will take on Ethiopia away from home on Saturday before hosting them in Mzansi on Tuesday.
