Broos Not Backing Down On Pirates & Downs Criticism

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has not backed down from his criticism of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, reiterating his stance that he hopes for more support from the clubs.

The Belgian tactician started his reign as Bafana coach with four points from his first two games against Zimbabwe and Ghana, but there has also been a lot of noise off the pitch.

First, he wasn’t let inside Orlando Stadium to watch a game, due to miscommunication between the PSL and Pirates, then Goodman Mosele didn’t pitch for the current Bafana camp, while Thabiso Kutumela had a vaccination booked for a time during the camp.

Broos has now reiterated his stance, stating he hopes for an improvement in future.

“From SAFA I have the full support, certainly, there is no problem at all,” he told Bafana’s media department.

“On the other side, and I think I was clear also with that, there were some clubs who didn’t follow the rules.

“I think when a coach of Bafana Bafana wanted to see a game and we did everything like accreditation and you arrive on the door of the stadium and they don’t allow you enter, I think this is something that I can’t understand.

“If a club is organising a vaccination during a camp of the national team and the risk that can happen with the vaccination, it is something that I don’t understand.

“That’s what I want a little bit more from that side, that clubs are a little bit more cooperating. When there is a camp, that the player is a Bafana Bafana player and not anymore a club player.

“This is all what I said, there is no problem between me and SAFA, only a little, little problem between me and some clubs. But I think and I hope that in the future those things don’t happen anymore.

“There was an apology of what happened with Orlando Pirates and entering to the stadium and I’m happy with that, this is something gone.

“Now, I hope that in the future that all players selected for the national team will be there and there is no activity anymore, during the camp, of a club.”

Bafana take on Ethiopia in Ethiopia on Saturday and will leave South Africa on Thursday, before welcoming them at home next week Tuesday, 12 October.

“Everything ok, I’m happy. Let’s hope that we’ll have a good result on Saturday.”
