Chippa Stun Chiefs, Tshakhuma Down Celtic

Chippa United beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0, while Tshakhuma beat Bloemfontein Celtic by the same scoreline as two DStv Premiership fixtures were played on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a disappointing result for Chiefs, who were on a high after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 on the weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 Chippa United

Chippa caused a bit of an upset when they scored a late goal to beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the FNB Stadium.

It was a positive start from the Chiefs side, who made a few early entries into the Chippa box, but were unable to test Rashid Watenga.

Leonardo Castro had a good chance in the 20th minute, but his shot was deflected wide by Frederic Nsabiyumva. Eric Mathoho went close from the resulting corner, but his header from a Dumisani Zuma cross went just wide.

Chippa grew more confident as the game wore on and it became more competitive, but there wasn’t a lot happening in the final third.

Mathoho made a good defensive block in the 28th minute, to block Augustine Kwem’s attempted shot.

At the break it remained goalless.

Kwem had another effort two minutes into the second half but it was off target, as was Bernard Parker’s attempt in the 55th minute.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s effort in the 74th minute, was the first on target in the game, but Watenga dealt with it easily. A minute later Parker was off target again.

Samir Nurkovic had a good chance in the 82nd minute, but Watenga got down well to save the substitute’s effort.

Chippa grabbed the lead in the 85th minute, as Bienvenu Eva Nga was able to get past Eric Mathoho before lobbing over Itumeleng Khune to give the visitors.

A great defensive effort by Nsabiyumva in the 90th minute denied Chiefs an equaliser, as he cleared off the line after a good ball in by Parker.

A good victory for Chippa, who remain 15th, but have now moved onto 21 points.

Tshakhuma 1-0 Bloemfontein Celtic

TTM beat Bloem Celtic 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a goalless first half between TTM and Celtic. TTM were once again playing without Dylan Kerr on the bench, as their coach continues to wait for his work permit.

The duck was finally broken when Joseph Malongoane put the home team into the lead in the 75th minute.

A big win for the home team, who move up to the 13th with the result.
