Hollywoodbets Super League Final Day Wrap

Andisiwe Mgcoyi scored a double hat-trick and Modikanalo Mashigo scored the seventh as champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies showed one last time this season their dominance in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

They defeated rookies MaIndies Ladies 7-0 in the final game of the campaign at the Wits Sports Grounds to finish as the 2021 Champions with 73 points with only one loss.

Jerry Tshabalala’s charges have completed a treble that includes the COSAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers trophy and the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League gold medal.

For their efforts in the domestic league they got R2m, a trophy and medals. MaIndies finished in eighth place with 28 points. 

In other results on the closing day JVW won 6-3 against Richmond United to finish their first season in fourth position with 51 points, while their captain Nompumelelo Nyandeni was the league’s joint top goal scorer with Mgcoyi, with 27 goals.

University of Western Cape (UWC) finished in third place with 53 points after winning 2-1 over Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies.

Thunderbirds won 3-0 against Golden Ladies and they both ended the term in seventh and 13th places on 35 and 16 points respectively.

In a surprise result bottom placed Tsunami Queens registered only their third victory of the season a 2-1 victory away at First Touch Academy. First Touch finished in fifth spot with 39 points. 

Meanwhile the Sasol League National Championship which were scheduled for Durban this coming week have been postponed.

This comes after four of the six teams that were preparing to go to the national playoffs had a lot of positive Covid-19 test results. So far there are no suggested new dates with the organisers saying they are monitoring the situation with the new Covid variant before making any pronouncement.
