GladAfrica Championship Round-Up

Richards Bay moved top of the GladAfrica Championship as South Africa’s second tier reached the halfway point in the season.

With all teams having played 15 games, it is Pitso Dladla’s Richards Bay who have secured top spot after they beat AmaTuks 2-1 on Saturday.

JDR Stars, who have been leading for the past few weeks, dropped points as they suffered a 1-0 loss away to Free Stars.

The weekend’s action began on Friday, when Cape Town All Stars picked up a good 1-0 win away win against Platinum City Rovers.

Saturday also saw Jomo Cosmos picked up just their second win of the season, as they beat Black Leopards 2-0. Perhaps more importantly to Jomo Sono, it was a second consecutive win and while they are still bottom of the table, they’ve closed the gap on teams above them.

Tshakhuma also picked up their second consecutive win, with Lucky Nelukau on the bench after Zeca Marques’ departure, and it was a good 1-0 away against Uthongathi.

Johnny Ferreira’s Venda Football Academy also picked up three points to move third, winning 1-0 at home against Pretoria Callies.

On Sunday, Cape Town Spurs’ resurgence under Shaun Bartlett, as they beat TS Sporting 2-1 to move up to 12th.

In the other game on Sunday, Hungry Lions came from a goal down to beat Polokwane City 3-1 away.
