SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed Siphesihle Ndlovu and Benson Shilongo are their last two signings of the current transfer window.
Ndlovu, 25, joined on a one year deal with an option to extend from Orlando Pirates while the Namibia international striker Shilongo joins on a free transfer.
Shilongo arrives with great pedigree as one of the finest strikers from his nation and spent the past four years in Egypt and a short stint in Isreal since leaving South Africa where he starred with the now defunct Platinum Stars.
While Hunt stated he’s happy with his youthful squad right now, he conceded there’s still a long way to go before they realistically can challenge for anything.
“We have a team that needs a few windows, you need to work at it, and you can tell me anything about football, it’s not about coaching, it’s about windows,” Hunt said at FNB Stadium after the 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.
“That’s what football is all about, then you can do things [challenge for silverware], so we need another window that’s for sure, then we can trade. We got two in now that will help us tremendously, but yeah that’s how it is. If you can’t do that, you have to try and get in a few here and there.
“But the squad I have now I’m happy with, young ones, we have a very good group and they will go far but sometimes they need a little bit of time. With the time you can produce and they will do better, I don’t have to tell you, when I was here [the first time], how many young players were produced here? We have to think about it.”
Ndlovu made his debut against Amakhosi in the second-half but he’s well short of match fitness, according to Hunt, likewise Shilongo who will now be aiming to capitalise on the two-week FIFA International break to get back up to speed.
“When you get in players last minute it’s going to happen, isn’t it? You go anywhere in the world and get a player now, he’s not going to be in any condition because of the situation,” he added.
“We have to try and make them fitter. I didn’t really want to play him [Ndlovu] but we stuck him in because we’re short there [in midfield], sometimes we’re playing a full-back there but we’re fine, we’ll be okay.”
Matsatsansa are currently seventh in the DStv Premiership with three wins, two draws and three defeats from their opening eight rounds of fixtures.
