TS Galaxy forward Wayde Lekay has set himself an ambitious target of scoring at least 20 goals this season.
The 23-year-old, who scored in Galaxy’s 1-0 win over Amazulu last month, joined the new DSTV Premiership franchise at the start of the season, having previously been on the books of Glad Africa Championship side Steenberg United.
Prior to being at Steenberg, Lekay had been at the SuperSport United Academy, having joined them from Cape lower league side Atlantic Nacional.
“I want to at least score 20 goals,” the ambitious Lekay told the TS Galaxy website.
“That is always my target. Strikers in Europe are reaching the target of 30 goals. “
“But for me, it is more about the team. I want the team to succeed. I want the team to do well. We are not here to add numbers. In each and every game, we can challenge as much as we can.”
“If I can score as much goals as I can to help the team get better, that is great. That’s what I want to do. “
Lekay’s goal tally could already be higher, but he missed from the penalty spot in their clash with Kaizer Chiefs. However he has already put that setback behind him.
“Obviously during the game, it is a disappointing moment but many players miss penalties. It is something that happens in football. You have to accept it.”
“Yes, it does take a knock on your confidence but if you allow it to get the better of you and then you won’t succeed. I’m back on training and working very hard. That’s the most important thing.”
“It is definitely going to make me stronger. Obviously facing that moment against Chiefs. It was a reality check for me. You have to gain confidence from that. That is going to build my character. It will make me stronger.”
