After their 2-0 win over Maritzburg United, Sekhukhune United head coach Macdonald Makhubedu says it was important to get the club’s first win.
The newly-promoted side scored two early goals against the Team of Choice, and then defended their lead for the remainder of the game.
Sekhukhune had lost their opening game of the season against Chippa United, and Makhubedu stressed the importance of getting something out of their second match.
“It was a very, very difficult game against a good team,” Makhubedu said after the match.
“And we had to get three points or one point because of the loss of last week against Chippa, but I’m happy for my boys, they fought hard, especially the senior guys.
“They stood their ground in the second half after leading two nil, we wanted to catch them on counter attacks, then brought Madonsela and Jomo on to have their speed going forward, because they were left with two at the back, the two centre backs, and they pushed everyone up.
“But then we got three four of them, but we couldn’t utilize them but I’m happy for my boys they fought hard, they were very compact, they won all the aerial battles, the set pieces, and our keep also, Kapini was top.
“So we needed this win, we needed it desperately, and I’m happy.”
