Marlin Back At Ikamva

Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Calvin Marlin has returned to Ikamva, and will be part of the Cape Town Spurs’ technical team for the 2021/2022 GladAfrica Championship campaign.

Marlin, who played for Ajax Cape Town, also worked as an assistant coach at the club to both Muhsin Ertugral and Andries Ulderink. Ajax returned to the Spurs monicker after the partnership with Ajax Amsterdam ended last year.

In the 2019/2020 season he and current Head Coach Dylan Deane took charge when Ulderink left the club.

Last season he was goalkeeper coach, and interim head coach for the second half of the season, at neighbours Cape Town All Stars, but he left this month when his contract expired after Marlin had steered them out of the danger zone.

Marlin’s experience as a coach started in 2015 when he became goalkeeper coach at the now defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces, working with Ertugral.

He moved to Cape Town City when they bought the Aces franchise, working with both Eric Tinkler and Benni McCarthy, before he left to re-unite with Ertugral at Ajax.

He will now serve as goalkeeper coach again, alongside Deane, and assistant coach Nasief Morris.

Deane and Morris joined Spurs in the last month of the 2020/2021 season, replacing Ian Taylor and Nathan Paulse.
