Swallows’ Joseph Mhlongo, who scored the winning goal against Kaizer Chiefs mid-week, has apologised for his goal celebration.
The former Black Leopards player made his debut for the DSTV Premiership log leaders on Wednesday, coming off the bench to grab the winner as Chiefs.
But there was a bit of reaction on social media to his celebration, where Mhlongo ran to celebrate, ‘holding his buttocks’.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to the football fraternity, especially those were offended by my celebration,” Mhlongo said, “It wasn’t my intention to offend you guys.”
“To me, the celebration comes a long way, from primary, when I was playing football it was a celebration whereby the teacher who was coaching me, was beating me in class, and I decided to mock him, and to say you know what as much as you are beating me in class, I will score and this is how I will celebrate.”
“It’s how I grew up, with this celebration. So I am aware that a lot of people are offended by the celebration, and it wasn’t my intention, so I just want to take this opportunity to apologise.”
