Maritzburg United Head Coach Ernst Middendorp was very happy with his team’s 5-1 win over Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on the weekend.
While Chippa scored first at the Harry Gwala Stadium, Maritzburg bounced back with aplomb, scoring five times as the annihilated Dan Malesela’s team. It has since been reported that Chippa have parted ways with Malesela.
Middendorp was happy with how his team responded after conceding, and says they could have even scored more goals.
“Yah, it’s definitely a huge, huge step following the away when in Nelspruit against TS Galaxy some weeks ago,” Middendorp told the club’s media department.
“We had a certain problem in the first 18-20 minutes, where we conceded the 0-1. Not really were able to bring our approach through, but all of a sudden, after we go down, we started to work with this first pressing line, and the second pressing line, close to it, forcing the opponent to mistakes.”
“The transition into the attack was absolutely then good, very effective and good, the remaining 70 minutes we scored five but it could have been one or two more.”
Maritzburg, who are now 13th, will only play their next game on the 23rd of April, when they host Baroka.
“We will use the time to keep the momentum despite our next game is only on the 23rd of April means today another 14 days or even more two and a half weeks.”
“But okay, we have to do our job. We have to find the right way to periodize it adequately and get everybody on the same boat.”
