Mamelodi Sundowns Co-Head Coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he is very proud after they beat TP Mazembe in the DRC in the CAF Champions League on the weekend.
It was the first loss Mazembe had suffered at home in CAF competitions since 2009, and Mngqithi admits that not having a full stadium due to the Covid-19 restrictions may have played a small part.
Mngqithi says though that his team are very confident at the moment, and they were well prepared for the fixture.
“First one should thank COVID-19. Because with your supporters it’s always different, When your stadium is full, you always give a very good account of yourself,” Mngqithi said at the post match presser.
“So the fact that we played maybe with a not so full Stadium, but I must also not take credit away from the team.”
“I think we were prepared for this encounter. We knew we were playing against a very good team. But our confidence is very high.”
“I think we’ve played probably 23 matches now we have not lost a match this season. Which is also a very good account of the team and the way that we are preparing the team.”
“The boys worked very hard. I must say there were some circumstances within the game that were very difficult for the boys and I also would like to know whether the goal that we scored first half, was not a goal not because I also believe we scored a goal first half which I don’t know what was the reason for it not to count beecause in my mind, I think we scored three goals today.”
