Rulani Mokwena has said that Hlompho Kekana is a Mamelodi Sundowns legend, and the says the club will release a statement on his future in due course.
Kekana is yet to make an appearance for Sundowns this season, and last season also featured sporadically.
Speaking in a radio interview with Thabiso Mosia, the Sundowns’ co-head coach says that everyone at the club loves Kekana, and he deserves to be honoured by the club.
“We love him, we love him, the club loves him, the fans love him,” Mokwena told Sport On on SAFM.
“And I think the club will make a statement in due course because… (he’s a) proverbial winner, really a person that loves the game, has sacrificed so much for the game, has given so much to Mamelodi Sundowns.
“In that side, he deserves a lot of respect, honour, which I’m sure Mamelodi Sundowns will give, really, the due diligence that he socially deserves.”
Mokwena though was non-committal about whether they see a playing future at the club for Kekana.
“It becomes a difficult question to answer,” he continued.
“Because it’s not really about what we see. There’s a lot of talks, discussions that we had in private, those are ours, for us to keep private.
“I’m not about to confirm or deny anything at this moment, out of respect for the legend that Hlompho is, and as I say the club will deliver a statement when the time is right, and honour and appreciate his work, his contributions, to this beautiful club.”
