‘OJ’ Mabizela Returns To Football

Former Bafana Bafana captain Mbulelo ‘OJ’ Mabizela has been appointed as the new head coach of Talitha Soccer Academy.

Mabizela, 41, was widely considered as one of the most talented defenders in South African football history and was the youngest-ever captain at the age of 22 and amassed 45 caps between 2001 and 2008.

His supreme talent even took him to the heights of the English Premier League when Tottenham lured him from Orlando Pirates after he impressed during their pre-season Vodacom Challenge Tour.

However, he went on to endure a rather nomadic career due to off-the-field issues as he represented Vålerenga, Mamelodi Sundowns, Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits, Chippa United, Black Aces, AmaZulu and Royal Eagles.

Having not heard of an official retirement since 2015, iDiski Times has learnt that Mabizela has resurfaced at the Boksburg-based institution where he’ll oversee the academy and first-team.

Chairman Mr Kwezi Nyathi secured the highly experienced former Bafana defender earlier this week and iDiski Times can confirm he arrived at their training ground on Thursday morning.
