Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has dedicated their all-important win over Stellenbosch FC to his players vowing that they will give the title race a fight to the end.
The Buccaneers beat Stellies 2-0 to move within two points of Mamelodi Sundowns at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday night.
Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi struck in the first half to send the Buccaneers on their way to three points with three matches left before the 2025/26 campaign comes to an end.
Speaking to SuperSport TV, Ouaddou heaped praise on his players for executing their plan to perfection though he admitted they were under pressure in the second stanza.
“I think we had the game that we expected. We know it’s never easy to come and play Stellenbosch,” he said.
“You know when you play the teams of Gavin Hunt, Gavin Hunt is an experienced coach I don’t have to tell you about his experience.
“We started the game like we wanted, very well organised but with the high, high intensity. We knew that here we need to answer to these physical duels to the intensity, direct balls as well.
“I think we were efficient in the set pieces in the first half.
“We made some tactical adjustments to have this control in the second half because I though that to keep the score or to win, we need more control.
“I don’t think that we had this control in the second half. It’s normal I think the opponent was pushing to come equalise.
“But, it’s fantastic result. It let us in the title race.
“The guys were very brave, I’m so proud of them. I’m very proud to be the coach of these boys.
“Today, we saw really warriors and players that clearly give answer to say that we still here and we’re going to the fight until the last second.
