Orlando Pirates have broken their silence on rumours linking Steve Komphela with a move to the Buccaneers.
The Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach has been linked with a move to Orlando Stadium, with iDiski Times reporting that a compensation clause in his contract was holding up the move.
However, Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele insisted that Pirates will go with Josef Zinnbauer into the pre-season for the new campaign before down-talking the Komphela rumours.
“I’m flabbergasted by rumours linking Steve Komphela to Pirates. He is employed by Sundowns and they did very well there,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.
“People are just putting one plus one together because Ncikazi is here. But we will look at the needs of the team and see what’s important going forward.
“Last season was an interesting one. We had a lot of challenges that are not well documented,” Mbele says.
“Traveling on the continent was tough, we had 11 draws which is a lot. But we still managed to win a trophy, reach last 8 of Confed and finished third.”
