Pitso Mosimane has revealed where he could end up next after Al Ahly but ruled out a potential return to coach Bafana Bafana.
Mosimane is arguably one of the most successful African managers of all time with 18 trophies to his name – including three CAF Champions League-winning medals.
He’s destroyed stereotypes and record books within his glittering career as the first black manager in Ahly history and first-non African to lead the club.
The faith they’ve shown in him has seen them rewarded with consecutive Champions League crowns – after seven years without it, back-to-back CAF Super Cups, an Egyptian Cup and a bronze medal at last season’s FIFA Club World Cup.
And while there are suggestions that he could become one of their longest-serving managers since Manuel Jose, it hasn’t stopped many from wondering; what is next for the South African tactician?
In his interview with New York Times, Mosimane claimed “there is nothing left for me to win in Africa” when asked about his potential next step.
The stumbling blocks as a black African coach are glaring in European football and even amongst the giants of South America, North America and Asia – but when probed about a realistic move he pointed out to international football.
According to the publication, a Bafana Bafana return, a job he was strongly linked with last year, is not ‘the right time’ but Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast or Egypt could be something he considers.
