Rangers have released a word of thanks to Bongani Zungu after his loan spell with the club officially came to an end.
The 28-year-old returned to his parent club Amiens following a one-year loan with the Scottish champions.
Zungu earned himself a league winners’ medal but his time at Rangers was overshadowed by an off-pitch incident when he and four other players broke coronavirus rules during a party.
However, despite his controversial stint, Rangers put up a word of thanks on their website.
“Zungu earned a total of 21 appearances for the Light Blues, often being a crucial figure in assisting Gerrard’s side see out tight matches to secure three points on numerous occasions this year.
“His time at Rangers also saw him win a recall to the South Africa national team for their African Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.”
Sporting director Ross Wilson added: “We made a number of changes to the squad last summer and the group has a real strength and connection in it between all of the players. Greg and Bongani were two really positive influences and popular members around the group.”
Rangers had a R50.8 million option to turn Zungu’s loan into a permanent move but opted against it.
