Another Ex-EPL Player Slams Zungu
Bongani Zungu, who collected a Scottish Premiership medal on Saturday, has once again received some heavy backlash by a former Premier League player.
The South African midfielder is set to return to his parent club Amiens after failing to convince Rangers manager Steven Gerrard of a permanent move.
However, on Saturday, Zungu was part of Rangers’ title celebrations after the Scottish giants had finished the league as ‘Invincibles’ without losing a single match.
Zungu, who posted an image of his league medal, though, was heavily criticised by former West Ham United and Aston Villa striker Frank McAvennie.
“He never looked good enough,” he told Football Insider.
“He barely got a game. It’s one of them, he came in, he didn’t do it. Just like Duffy at Celtic.
“He’s just got to get on with it now. Go back to your club and start again.
“He’ll go back and make all these excuses, ‘it wasn’t my fault it was someone else’s fault’.
“That’s what those loan players do. Just go and do it when you’re on loan so you end up staying. It makes no sense to me.”
Zungu made 20 appearances over his loan spell, but saw his already-limited game time ever become less after breaking COVID-19 protocols at a party in February.
Nevertheless, the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder lifted the fifth trophy of his career after winning two leagues titles, one Nedbank Cup and one Telkom Knockout Cup during his time at Masandawana.
