Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has given an explanation of why Lesedi Kapinga has not featured for his club yet this season.
Kapinga hasn’t played in any of their three DStv Premiership games so far and neither in the MTN 8 quarter-final nor the semi-final.
The 26-year-old joined Masandawana from Black Leopards in 2019, where he featured 19 times for his new club last season.
Mokwena, though, has explained that Kapinga is part of the club’s plans but needs to be able to take his level from training into matches.
“He’s with us and he he’s training very, very well,” he told SAFM‘s Sport On.
“And we always see Lesedi’ possibilities and his quality in training. Lesedi’s is real work now is to graduate from the top performances that we see in training to being a player that master the match at the level of Mamelodi Sundowns.
“To show a lot more technical consistency during football matches, because that’s what he shows during training.
“And that’s that maybe, that adaptation, that process, we try as much to accelerate it with a lot of work behind the scenes, video analysis, training, a few talks with and some friendly match performances.
“Like we do with all the others, the other young players. But they need time, they need support, a bit of patience and not to be thrown into the deep end.
“But at the same time they’ve also got that responsibility to fight for their places like everybody else because we believe everybody is important.
“We’re gonna need everybody when from our 36 players we used 35. It’s going to be a similar season and we need everybody.”
