Vaccinated fans could make a return to football next month, after SAFA President Danny Jordaan said he wants to give free tickets to fully vaccinated supporters for next month’s Bafana Bafana game against Ethiopia.
Jordaan was speaking at the launch of a vaccination social mobilisation campaign at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, which was attended by Deputy President David Mabuza, Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa and Health Minister Joe Phahla, as well as leaders from different sporting codes.
Bafana will play Ethiopia both away and at home in October, with the game in South Africa expected to be played on the 10th of October.
After football fans have been prevented from entering stadiums for 18 months now, the SAFA president promised to let fans into the stadium for free – if they are vaccinated.
“When you look at what happens in Europe, why is it that Euro finals can have over 60 000 people in the stadium, can have fans celebrating before, during and after the match?” Jordaan said according to sabcnews.
“In the match against Ethiopia, we are going to give 50% of the tickets to fans which we will distribute freely.”
