AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy says his team is raring to go ahead of their CAF Champions League debut against Nyasa Big Bullets on Friday, and says Usuthu are ready to make the country proud, just like Bafana Bafana did on Monday.
The former Bafana striker was delighted by the national team’s win over Ghana this week, that took them top of their World Cup qualifying group.
McCarthy says his team’s preparation for Friday’s game against Malawian opposition has gone well, and they’re ready for a physical battle.
“We’ve had a very pleasant international break,” McCarthy told the club’s media department.
“Even more capped with Bafana winning, so all spirits are high, they first in the group, so people are more happier, even though we still stuck in lockdown, but the Bafana win came at the perfect time.
“And we used the time, very good. The facilities that we had was excellent. And we enjoyed our football, we worked on a lot of strategies and different formations, and how are we going to battle the physicality of African sides.
“So we worked on all those aspects of our game. And we think, ja, Friday can’t come any quicker, because we want to just get it over with, the butterflies in our stomachs, everyone, myself included the players, so we just want the game to come now.
“Because we think we’re prepared well enough for what we’re going to be up against. So ja, we’re ready to go. And hopefully we can also do South Africa proud, like the Bafana did over the weekend.”
