Stellies Target ‘Deep Cup Run’

Stellenbosch assistant coach Wesley Sergel says they are pleased to have a home fixture when they face Baroka in the Nedbank Cup last 32.

Stellenbosch were drawn to host Baroka in Wednesday’s Nedbank Cup draw.

Sergel says the club are looking to have a good cup run, and are pleased to start the competition with a fixture at the Danie Craven Stadium.

“Obviously a home fixture in our first game, always a positive thing to start off at home,” Sergel told Stellies’ media department.

“It is a competition that we are looking to have a deep cup run. It does give us the opportunity to play in a comfortable stadium that we know well and give us the best chance to start off the competition on a good note.

Sergel adds that Baroka are tough opponents, but they did beat them recently, even though it may not have been Steve Barker’s team’s best performance.

“We did play them recently at the end of December, again at home,” Sergel added.

“It was a tough competitive game, maybe not our best performance, although we did finish the game and win the game 1-0.

“So we are aware what they will bring to the table, they are a tricky team, they have some really good players.

“We will have to prepare really well for them. But again, a team that we do know quite well, having played them recently.

“So we will be well prepared and look forward to a positive result.”
