Tinkler Expects Tough Usuthu Game

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler says their win against Chippa United was a good morale booster ahead of Sunday’s DStv Premiership fixture away against AmaZulu.

The fixture had originally been scheduled for Saturday, but was shifted after AmaZulu’s game against Marumo Gallants was rescheduled for Thursday. Usuthu and Gallants drew 0-0.

Tinkler says they are pleased to get an extra day of preparation for what he expects to be a tough game.

In their last meeting, in the MTN8 last eight, City won 2-1, and Tinkler says he’s sure Benni McCarthy’s team are seeking revenge after that loss.

“This win against Chippa was key,” Tinkler told the club’s media department.

“We needed to get the three points here, just as a morale booster.

“And, now, the fact that the game has been moved to the Sunday gives us one extra day to recover and get the boys ready for a tough away game against a very, very good team in AmaZulu.

“So we’ll plan, we’ll prep extremely well. We know that there’s going to be them looking to get a little bit of vengeance after the MTN8 loss to us.

“But we need to be prepared for that, and we got to make sure that everybody is well rested and well prepared for that game come Sunday.”
