Orlando Pirates legend Tso Vilakazi has made a bold prediction about AmaZulu’s CAF Champions League campaign.
South Africa has three club participating in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup this season.
Marumo Gallants represent South Africa in the CAFCC as Nedbank Cup runners-up, while Mamelodi Sundowns are in the CAFCL as the champions of the then DStv Premiership.
AmaZulu FC are the second team representing South Africa in the CAFCL as the Premiership runner-ups for the 2020/2021 season, however, their journey could already end this weekend.
Usuthu have lost their first-leg to Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi 1-0 at home in their Champions League debut last week Friday at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Unless they can overturn their first-leg defeat, their journey will be over already.
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Tso Vilakazi, though, believes that AmaZulu will go as far as group stages of the competition.
“Amazulu surprised everyone with their league finish and qualification for the championships league. They will reach the group stages of the Champions League,” he wrote in his iDiski Times column.
“Their owner Sandie Zungu was very ambitious from the start when he aimed for a top four finishes.
“AmaZulu are lucky to have a coach like Benni McCarthy, who played in AFCON qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers on the African continent. His experience will help them navigate the continent easier.
“They also have other members in the team who know the content, like Siyabonga Nomvethe and Moeneeb Josephs. This could be a decent campaign for Amazulu in the Championships League.
