Kwinika Revels In Dramatic Turnaround To Help Chiefs Secure Silverware

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika says all those months on the sidelines prepared him to take this chance and help the club win the Nedbank Cup title.

Kwinka has played in four consecutive games now with the final included, where prior, he had featured in just 14 minutes of football all season and marshalled the defence with aplomb in the Soweto Derby final alongside Inacio Miguel on Saturday.

“We’re grateful and thankful to God, without him none of this would be possible, so I’m very grateful,” Kwinika said.

“It’s been a tough season, but I think it’s no coincidence, certain things happen for a reason, 10 years later we come to this place – the last time I was here it’s when we won the MTN8, it was first trophy at Chiefs, and I’m here today with the Nedbank Cup.”

“It’s God’s purpose, it was not easy [not playing] but I had to do what I needed to do, be a professional and I think all those months of not playing, were preparing me for this moment for me to keep up when I’m needed.”

Kwinika has played 51 times for Chiefs over his two spells at the club, having returned in a R3-million transfer from Stellenbosch, where he was the club’s Player of the Season before his sale in July 2022.
