Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel says it’s their duty to give the fans the happiness they deserve by winning silverware.
Miguel, 29, joined the club in the off-season from Girabola giants Petro de Luanda where he won the domestic double.
His transfer was viewed as a key arrival to shore up the defence with experience and leadership and he’s since been an ever-present figure in the backline under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, featuring in 24 out of a possible 27 games.
Speaking in the latest edition of iDiski Times, Miguel said after eight months in the country with Amakhosi, he’s started to grapple with the major responsibility it is to represent the brand amidst a season where they arrived at the club that finished 10th last season.
“The excitement has just grown, you know, of course we have some problems to fix, some struggles present that I wasn’t aware of when I arrived. But to be honest the excitement has just grown,” he told iDiski Times about what he’s experienced from day one.
“It’s grown because of the things we can do, not only for us as players, but for the fans – of course, they have a massive impact on our game, our preparation.
“That’s the biggest thing the I realised, it’s more important, not only playing for us – but playing for something bigger than us.
“The fans, Kaizer Chiefs – everywhere we play we have massive support from them. It’s the biggest challenge, to achieve something, to win something with the club, to give them they happiness they really deserve.”

When pressed whether he feels the project, as coach Nabi has suggested, will work with time and patience, the Angola international says it may not always seem this way – but from the analysis of the team, there’s clear progression over the last eight months.
“I’ve said 100 times, you cannot be doing anything new overnight, you have to understand the moment of the team, from where we came to where we are now,” he stated.
“We analyse games every week, analyse the season weekly – we can see we have made progress. We know we have a lot to do also.
“But I think we’re in a good space to do something great in the future. But myself, like the fans, we want it immediately, but sometimes it’s difficult.
“You need to understand the moment, the circumstances of what we have and we can do – but 100% we’re pushing to do something great soon.”
