Petersen Opens Up On Replacing Bvuma In NBC Final

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has opened on replacing Bruce Bvuma in the Nedbank Cup final, saying being a part of the game was a privilege and showed how much the coach believed in him.

The 30 year old came from a long layoff having played just three league matches the last coming in December 2024 as Bvuma was the man preferred in the Chiefs goals. With his teammate facing pressure Petersen was handed an opportunity in the final against bitter rivals Orlando Pirates and produced some critical saves as Chiefs dethroned Pirates and broke a decade long trophy drought.

Petersen is quoted in iDiski Times feature on Chiefs breaking the spell in edition 204 of the newspaper thanking his teammates for their support in a high pressure game.

“Obviously, coming in, it’s a huge responsibility, but it also showed me the belief that they had in me” said Petersen.

“I mean, we do a lot of hard work. We got a lot of stick the last couple of weeks, our goalkeeping department, and we were under a lot of pressure. And for me to be granted this opportunity to play today, it’s a huge honour, a huge blessing for me”.

“To win the trophy, it’s a dream come true. I mean, I’ve been here for four years now and hunting for that, for a trophy every season. I know we’ve made a lot of promises in the past, and I think we can finally tick it off that we broke the curse ten years later”.

“I mean, the guys did phenomenally well. And the confidence that the guys gave me, coming in, I haven’t played a lot this season, coming in in the final, there’s always going to be that pressure. I mean, playing for Chiefs is pressure, but pressure is a privilege, and I think today we showed up, and I think we wanted it more.”
