Bafana Star Claims Second Historic Title In Europe

Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela has helped his side Aris Limassol to win their first ever Cyprus Super Cup title.

Mihlali, who is the younger of the two Mayambela brothers, had helped Aris to their first ever Cyprus 1. Division title last season, scoring four goals across 33 league games.

As a consequence, they qualified for the league’s Super Cup against Cyprus Cup winners Omonia Nicosia

The latter are the record champions in the Super cup, having lifted the trophy 17 times in their history.

However, on Friday, Aris had the upper hand after Mayambela gave his side the lead with a stunning strike after 21 minutes. They added another goal in extra-time to beat Omonia 2-0.

Despite being one of the founding members of the Cyprus Football Association, these were the first two trophies in the club’s history.

The club will also feature in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers for the 2023/24 season, and will face Belarus side BATE Borisov in the first leg on Wednesday, 26 July.
