FCSB President Gigi Becali feels the impressive form of Siyabonga Ngezana will provide them with a healthy profit and is keen on luring more South African talent to the club.
Ngezana, 26, joined the Superliga giants in the off-season in a deal worth around €600,000 (R12m) from Kaizer Chiefs and his arrival was met with a mixed reception.
After a day to forget in his first pre-season outing where he slipped before they conceded a goal, it took nine games before he earned his official debut.
An injury to Romania captain Vlad Chiriches opened a spot to line up alongside Cameroon international defender Joyskim Dawa, where he’s now featured in four of their last five games and earned widespread plaudits from Becali and local media.
“I want to bring more footballers from Africa and let’s do the same as Botosani [another Superliga club], to have seven [African players] on the field,” he said, as per DigiSport.
“I’m not interested in Brazil, I’m only interested in South Africa [now]. They are not expensive there, have you seen Ngezana?
“This is a football player! Now he is [playing in] Europe, he still has emotions and he is still [nervous] – wait for him to gather courage.”
When asked whether he thinks he will be a success and bring the club in more than they invested to bring him to Europe, he stated: “Have you seen how Ngezana play?
“Let’s see what kind of footballer he will be. He has strength, speed, technique, and everything you want. You know that, yes, yes, [he will be sold for 7-8 million euros].”
