Truter: I Don’t Remember Losing To Chiefs

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has reminded everyone out there that Kaizer Chiefs are his daily bread, saying “I don’t remember losing against Chiefs”.

Chiefs will host Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, their alternative venue, on Wednesday (19:30), the venue Truter knows so well having been in charge of AmaZulu during the early part of last season and season before.

But since Truter has been coaching in the top flight football, he has not lost to Chiefs, including his stint with Moroka Swallows in the 2020/21 season, taking four points off them.

As he was sacked by Swallows in the following season and replaced Benni McCarthy on the interim basis in March with Usuthu, Truter was then appointed by AmaZulu as head coach at the beginning of last term.

He drew with them in the league match in the first round and also in the 1-1 draw against Amakhosi in the MTN8 semi final first leg – all at FNB Stadium. But he was sacked in October last year after Usuthu lost 1-0 to Richards Bay FC.

A month later, Truter was appointed by Sekhukhune until the 2025 season, replacing Kaitano Tembo. He beat Chiefs in his third match in charge and repeated the trick in April to see Sekhukhune do the double over Amakhosi, who ended up losing 12 games which is a record in the PSL.

This record of Truter has led to him charged up against Amakhosi and expecting the same outcome – a win.

“I can’t remember Chiefs beating me and with our records in KZN, I think they looked at that and decided to bring it there,” said Truter.

Truter said Chiefs have signed big players and expectations for coach Molefi Ntseki have skyrocketed.

“Chiefs lost (to SuperSport United and the MTN8 second leg semi-final to Mamelodi Sundowns this past weekend), it’s a big one,” admitted Truter.

“They have signed big players and big players come with big expectations, so the pressure just grows there.

“For any other team that plays against Chiefs, the motivation in itself is there for the players. Yes we will prepare, but that is one for the players.”

While Chiefs have been looking for comfort in Durban in the stands, their last home game in Durban they failed to win.

It was the first game of this season at the 2010 World Cup venue this season, but they drew a goalless draw against Morgan Mammila’s Chippa United last month.
