Mike Makaab, the agent of Boitumelo Radiopane and Luvuyo Phewa, has confirmed that both players will return to their respective mother clubs after the relegation of Cape Town Spurs.
Radiopane and Phewa were big pillars in Spurs’ promotion to the DStv Premiership and saw their loan deals extended, but both weren’t able to prevent the club’s immediate return to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Radiopane, 22, scored seven goals for Spurs in 2022/23 but had two serious injuries hampering his progress – one in the beginning of the season and another in the playoffs.
However, despite the latter ruling him out of the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, Spurs extended his loan and he return to the field in February.
Phewa, meanwhile, had joined Spurs in January 2022 and helped them in their promotion push. His performances convinced those in power of the club to extend his loan and made 17 appearances in 2023/24, scoring once and setting up three more.
But both players will now return to their mother clubs, who will decide on their future for next season.
“The two players that we represent are actually loan players, that’s Boitumelo Radiopane and Luvuyo Phewa. They will return to their respective clubs,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM.
“Vuyo to Mamelodi Sundowns and Radiopane back to Orlando Pirates.
“We’re in the, let’s say fortunate position, that we have players at the club that we have to really concern ourselves about.
“But, it’s a sad day. Because the club has big heritage. I thought that they would’ve strengthened the team with a few more experienced players, early on and then give themselves more of a chance to retain their PSL status.
“Sadly, it wasn’t to be and they have to work hard now to get back into the top flight now.”
