Ex-Pirates Striker Marou Hits Out At Fake News

Former Orlando Pirates striker Souaibou Marou has denied he will return to the MTN Ligue One with Fauve Azur Elite.

Marou is currently a free agent after leaving Bahrani club Al-Shabab Club after just one month.

It marked another blow to his career, having failed to establish himself at Pirates where he was lured to the club as one of the most promising talents in Cameroon.

With Coton Sport, he was the Footballer of the Season, Golden Boot and was part of the senior national team squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before joining Pirates.

But he left in the off-season with just nine games played and no goals scored across all competitions and his fortunes didn’t change upon his brief stint in Asia.

“Since this morning, a rumour has been circulating on social networks that I will be making my return to MTN Elite One, under the colours of Fauve Azur,” he said on social media.

“[It’s] a first-division club from my country that I respect a lot [but] I reiterate to the general public and fans in particular that this is fake news.”

The 23-year-old scored one goal in three caps for the Indomtiable Lions, with his last appearance dating back to 2022.
