Magesi Chairman Confirms Seven Exits

Magesi Chairman Solly Makhubela has confirmed Kgaogelo Sekgota is among seven players the club has released.

Sekgota, 27, was in the Bafana Bafana squad in 2022 and was touted to make the Africa Cup of Nations selection, having been starring at Kaizer Chiefs at the time.

Then head coach Arthur Zwane lauded him as their brightest spark in an indifferent season but since then, his career has been on a downward spiral.

From being released at both Chiefs and Stellenbosch in the space of seven months over reported discipline issues, his move to Magesi was seen as a chance to rebuild his career.

But it appears not much has changed as he struggled to establish himself with only four starts of nine appearances before his mutual termination this month alongside the likes of Limbinkani Mzava.

“I think we have done our [business] with the five players we wanted, but today we will see how many players have been registered, they are in process, I will talk again when the players are registered,” Makhubela said after the game.

“They have left, it’s not Mzava and Sekgota only – I think there’s a couple of players, about seven players [who have been released]. Some of them are because of performance, if you look at the players – you media you will be upfront with these things.

“You will see they never played in the league or any competitions, you will have the answer for that, sometimes you need to wake up and write things you know. If some players don’t perform, the coach will take them away, it’s not about me.

“So we have a new coach, who chops, it doesn’t mean they aren’t good, they good with other coaches but here they haven’t been good in the coaches plan and strategies and us? We want to get to [safety].”
