Moseamedi Set For North African Club

Former Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamedi has jetted out of the country to the north of the continent – Tunisia to be precise.

Moseamedi departed Mzansi via Turkey and touched down in Tunisia on Tuesday at 18:00, according to iDiski Times sources.

The club Moseamedi is set to join is El Gawafel Sportives de Gafsa, who won the Ligue 2 in Tunisia this past season to be promoted to the top flight.

The 29-year-old Moseamedi is a free agent after leaving Marumo Gallants, who, unlike Gafsa, were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Tzaneen-born striker only featured in three league matches, none as a starter, one in the Nedbank Cup, and three in the CAF Confederation Cup, where the Limpopo side reached the semi-finals against all odds, scoring two goals in all competitions.

He joined Gallants in the second half of last season after he was released by Stellenbosch FC, where he featured in six league games and was looking for some sort of comfort at the Bahlaba Bantwa but no success.

During Moseamedi’s time with Maritzburg, he tormented Kaizer Chiefs, including scoring two goals in the Telkom Knockout semi-final in the 2019/20 season at Mbombela Stadium.

He had won the same competition with Cape Town City in the 2016/17 season when the club was just 144 days old, scoring the winner in the final against SuperSport United in the 73rd minute at Peter Mokaba Stadium under then-coach Tinkler.

Moseamedi would be the third player signed by EGS Gatsa after the signings of Noel Agbe from Hammam Sousse and Ali Ayari from AS Soliman.

While Mzansi has players plying their trade in Egypt, namely Percy Tau (Al Ahly) and Fagrie Lakay (Pyramids), as well as Haashim Domingo (Raja Atheltic Club) in Morocco, Moseamedi would be the first South African player to play in Tunisia.
