Zamalek Break Silence On Tau Transfer Talk

Zamalek SC have distanced themselves from speculation around a sensational transfer for Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau from fierce rivals Al Ahly.

Tau, 30, has been linked with a move to the White Knights with suggestions that Ahly are keen to release him in order to register a new foreign recruit.

Reports in Egypt have suggested that Tau rejected an offer to terminate his contract that is valued at half of his remaining six-month contract at the club.

While he remains part of Marcel Koller’s squad this season, featuring ten times and scoring two goals in all competitions, links with Zamalek in Egyptian media persist.

But a member of the club’s board of directors Ahmed Suleiman told MBC Masr that it’s unlikely they launch a move for the three-time CAF Champions League winner.

“There has never been an offer from Zamalek for Percy Tau,” he told the Egyptian New Channel, as per KingFut.

“Currently, no one at the club is thinking about signing players from Al Ahly, just as Al Ahly is not considering signing players from us.

“No player joins Zamalek without José Gomes being fully convinced. As a board, we cannot impose a player on the coach.”

Tau has won 11 trophies since joining the Red Devils from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion in August 2021 in a deal worth a reported €1,8-million (R35m).
