Ngezana Finds Out UCL Opponents

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana and his Romanian club have found out who they will face in the first qualifying round for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

FCSB qualified after winning the Romanian Liga 1 for the first time in nine seasons, with the Bafana Bafana defender being one of the pillars in their title campaign.

Ngezana, 26, came through the Chiefs academy but joined FCSB ahead of the 2023/24 season in a deal worth around €600,000 (over R10 million), and his stock has risen even more since.

Ngezana and his side, though, have a tough route to qualify for the new “league phase” of the UEFA Champions League, and will need to go through three qualifying rounds plus a play-off round.

In the first qualifying round, the Romanian champions will face Sanmarinese side Virtus A.C. 1964, who won their first league title in 60 years, with the games set to take place on 9/10 July and 16/17 July.

If they would progress past Virtus, FCSB would face Israeli Prmeier League champions Maccabi Tel Aviv FC (ISR) in the second qualifying round.
