Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakzi doesn’t rate Monnapule Saleng as a candidate for the Player of the Season award.
The conversation about possible candidates for the Player of the Season has already started among supporters, with 12 rounds of league action to go.
Saleng scored his fourth league goal in Pirates’ 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants on Saturday, while he has three assists in 10 appearances.
However, Vilakazi believes Saleng still has a lot to of work to do before he can be considered for the award, despite being on the right path to becoming a great player.
“For me he is one of the players that are coming up in the sense that there are some moments where he comes to the party and makes things happen. After that you look at him he is quiet, so for me not the Player of the Season,” he said on iDiskiTV.
“No, I’m not going to count him as the Player of the Season. Maybe next season, if he can continue with whatever he is doing now. He is coming up, he is not yet there. When you look at him he is not a player that you can really rely on him to carry the team alone.
“They [fans] will always love him because he is a player that is shinning for the team. He does make things happen in the team so definitely they will love him and they will support him and choose him as a Player of the Season.
“But when we are really analysing his performance, decision-making, the way he makes runs sometimes and when he controls the ball, those things count in the sense that when we select you as a Player of the Season – it is based on one, two, three, four, and five.”
