Sundowns Take Down Galaxy

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to the top of the DStv Premiership table with a 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.

Sundowns move onto 10 points, one ahead of SuperSport United, Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates, who are all on nine points after four games.

A good chance fell to Themba Zwane in the eight minute, but he pulled his shot just wide of goal.

Igor Makitan had the ball in the back of the net for Galaxy in the 14th minute, but the referee had already blown the whistle for a foul on Denis Onyango.

As the half wore on Sundowns created a few chances, with Kermit Erasmus forcing a save from Vasilije Kolak in the 38th minute, and shooting wide two minutes later.

Gaston Sirino missed from a tight angle in the 45th minute, and at halftime it remained goalless.

Sirino had another chance three minutes into the second half, but again Kolak was up to the task.

Sundowns made the breakthrough in the 57th minute, as Mosa Lebusa, on his return to the team, followed up to finish after Kolak made a save from a Lyle Lakay free kick.

A minute later it was 2-0. Peter Shalulile raced clear onto a long pass from Andile Jali, and while Kolak got a touch to his shot, the Namibian scored his second league goal of the season.

Lindokuhle Mbatha was on target in the 62nd minute, but Onyango made a good save. Mbatha was causing a few problems and four minutes later he forced Onyango into another save.

However the result was wrapped up in the 84th minute when substitute Thabiso Kutumela was played in by fellow sub Haashim Domingo and he beat Kolak with a good strike. Kutumela’s first goal for the club.

Meanwhile earlier in day SuperSport United beat Swallows 3-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium, to temporarily go top of the log. Jamie Webber gave SuperSport the lead from the penalty spot just after the hour mark, and a minute later Teboho Mokoena added the second. Thamsanqa Gabuza added a third, from another penalty. All three goals came within a ten minute period.
