Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has reacted to Stuart Baxter’s departure from the Glamour Boys.
The iDiskiTV analyst has been a vocal critic of Baxter since he was reappointed as Amakhosi head coach and had long predicted his departure.
On Thursday, Chiefs’ leadership announced that the club had agreed to mutually terminate Baxter’s contract, with Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard taking over as interim coaches.
Khanye believes it was the right decision but also insisted more things need to change at Naturena.
“First of all, l don’t understand why did they employ the coach,” Khanye told iDiski Times journalist David Kappel.
“This team has been going in the wrong direction for many years now. At Kaizer Chiefs the problem is not only the coach but this coach made the situation very worse.
“Kaizer Chiefs, by employing the likes of Ernst Middendorp and Giovanni Solinas, the direction was not there before.
“You cannot have Ted Dumitru sign players that will play to his philosophy, comfortable players, skilful players. But after Ted Dumitru was leaving you sign a coach that believes in very, very static players, a coach that plays with high balls, a coach whose team doesn’t have combination play, who relies on crosses and set-pieces.
“There is no system that he plays. A big team like Kaizer Chiefs didn’t have a system, it was a shame.
“When Ted Dumitru was there he signed players according to his philosophy, very skilful team. When he left they were supposed to employ a coach of his caliber.
“But now they employed the wrong person. A guy that has been in South Africa for many, many years but doesn’t understand South African football.
“The direction was lost there.
“Me, I wouldn’t say I’m excited, but it’s a good thing that they released coach Stuart Baxter because he was making the situation worse but they’ve lost the direction long ago.”
You can hear more of Junior Khanye’s analysis on Baxter’s departure on Massiv Metro from 17:00 today as well as on iDiskiTV over the weekend.
