Official: Spain Announce New Coach

The Royal Spanish Football Federation has announced that Luis Enrique has left his role as Spain coach and also confirmed his successor.

Spain were knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup by Morocco after losing to 3-0 on penalties.

Enrique had been charge of Spain since 2018 and guided them into the last four at the UEFA Nations League and the semi-final at the 2020 EURO, before their last 16 exit at the World Cup.

“The RFEF would like to thank Luis Enrique – and his coaching staff – for being in charge of the national team over the last few years,” the RFEF confirmed on Thursday.

Overall, Enrique was in charge of 39 games, winning 21, drawing 11 and losing seven.

Minutes after the Enrique announcement, the RFEF confirmed that former rSpain U21 coach Luis De La Fuente will replace Enrique as head coach.

The 61-year-old has been with Spain’s youth teams since 2013 and has won the U19 UEFA Championship in 2015 and the U21 UEFA Championship in 2019 before guiding Spain’s U23 side to a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
